The Pod on 'The Net'

BBC 2, 1997

For a few years in the mid-nineties, amid feeble attempts to be an actor and a poet, I was often called upon to be the third (and sometimes fourth) man in a comedy double act called The Pod, fronted by stand-ups Tim Hope and Julian Barratt. Usually this just involved playing bongos or dancing, but I did several gigs as a fictional rap artist called Big N (who had a song called 'Guardian of the Bass') and occasionally they asked me to guest on various TV and radio slots that popped up. This particular piece is from a BBC 2 magazine programme called The Net. The show itself was a serious series about technology, but obviously they had a sense of humour, found out about The Pod somehow and asked them to contribute a piece about identity. I'm only in it briefly at the end, but I'm very pleased I was there - not quite my first appearance on television but it's my first credited appearance with an actual spoken line. Coincidentally, while on holiday in Malta in the late 1990s, I once turned on the TV in the hotel room to be greeted with this exact same programme. Despite this apparent worldwide syndication, I was unable to find it on the internet (ironically, given the subject matter), so I've uploaded it myself. Enjoy!
