A rare performance of The Chinese Ghost of Christmas, at what used to be known as The Buffalo Bar on Highbury Corner, just outside Highbury & Islington tube station in North London. I’d been asked to perform by the author and musician Anthony Reynolds, who staged the evening to promote a book he was writing about the band Japan. Amazingly, people came, even though he still hadn’t finished writing it yet. But they weren’t expecting a comedian and, as you’ll hear, talked all the way through my act. Nonetheless, I stuck to the evening’s theme and sang all five of Gary’s Japan-inspired songs, including this one. The special Freddie Krueger-like chopstick bauble glove was a new addition unique to that gig. As was the semi-beard.
