A spirited, energetic performance at Oram and Meeten’s legendary Club Fantastico at the Albany on Great Portland Street, which I found last year on an old mini-DV tape at the back of a chest of drawers. By the time I did this, I’d already been through the wringer of Beef Scarecrow, so it’s surprising to see me throw myself into one of my old songs with such fervour. It might have had something to do with Gary’s recent appearance on Comedy Cuts, which had just aired on ITV2 and briefly rekindled my enthusiasm for the character. As for the bandaged hand, I don’t think it was real - just a costume decision, and the first step towards a self-consciously Goth/punk persona that I never fully got to grips with before putting him on hiatus.
