A musical segment from an unbroadcast pilot for a series called Crash made by Talkback for Channel 4. This was the first gig I did after returning from the Edinburgh Fringe in 2003, the first thing Gary ever filmed for the telly and the closest he ever got to being on Top of the Pops. Shane Allen produced and Simon Amstell hosted, with occasional help from Sarah Kendall and Rhys Thomas who, for some reason, spent the whole thing dressed as Piltdown Man. It’s a rough performance from me but it was late and they only let me do one take (and, to be frank, I didn’t really know what I was doing). The main feeling I have when I see this is of wistful regret, that the London Studios, where it was filmed, no longer exist. Best dressing room I ever had.
