Another performance from Steve Oram and Tom Meeten’s Club Fantastico, the same night as Is My Toaster Sentient? and just as dynamic. When I first uploaded this video here in March 2024, I felt a little cold about it, finding it overwrought and almost unpleasantly intense. But it seemed to trigger a wave of warm nostalgia in various friends and acquaintances who were all quick to tell me this was actually a good one, so now I feel bad about having disparaged it. The truth is, I’m not a good judge of how effective my performances are. I only know how close they come to what I wanted to achieve, and in this case I guess I did OK. It’s an exuberant rendition of Michael the Swan which makes the most of how extraordinarily silly it all is.
