A promo for Gary Le Strange’s 2015 single, Shut Up Mum, directed by my wife Katy
Darby, also on camera duty. We came up with most of the ideas together while
walking around Poplar and East India Dock Basin, where most of this was filmed. The
shoot took two days: March 30 & 31, 2015. Then I edited it over nine days from April 1
to April 16, before releasing it on the 21st. As a total work (writing, performance,
audio and visuals combined), I’d say this is possibly the most creatively satisfying thing
I’ve ever done and a contender for Gary’s finest moment. But the real star of the show
is obviously Janice, the mannequin who plays Gary’s long-suffering Mum. Hopefully I’ll
upload more of her work in the future, but for now there’s always this.
