Six armed men storm the Iranian Embassy in London, taking 26 hostages.

of prisoners in Khuzestan and safe passage out of the UK. The Government’s
refusal to grant safe passage results in a siege which lasts six days. More
about this next week…

Look-in No 19
Star Wars Weekly No 115
Spectacular Spider-Man Weekly No 374
Doctor Who Weekly No 29
Incredible Hulk Weekly No 62 - This week, the comic announces, in a full
page ad, that in two weeks’ time, it will be merging with Spider-Man Weekly.
Calling itself “a new concept in comics”, it also heralds the arrival of strips
featuring Spider-Woman and She-Hulk with the tagline “The ladies are
coming!” It’s not clear whether the “new concept” is the merging of the titular
characters in one mag or the blurring of the line between the two gender-
divided target audiences for girls’ and boys’ comics. I suspect the latter,
though I have to admit this comic would definitely not have appealed to the
deeply sexist person I used to be when I was eight years old. Which is
probably why I never bought it. As a much more well-balanced adult, my
favourite bit in the ad is She-Hulk threatening the guy in the bottom right-
hand corner: “I don’t care if you ARE 43 - order it now from your newsagent!”

2000 AD Prog 164 - an ad for Shoot! Magazine promises info about the
Captains in this year’s European Championship, while if you buy Tiger or Roy
of the Rovers, you can get a free Europa 80 sticker album. Another ad details
several more IPC comics you can buy. I didn’t know it at the time, but thanks
to a strike, this would be the last edition of 2000 AD for five weeks.
