Once, long agoIn England’s pleasant pastUpon a field of hammersStood a scarecrow made of meatHis legs were made of liversAnd his head was made of lipsA single cow’s eye glistening in the middle of his faceHe stood in a field of hammersHe stood in a field of hammersA field of hammers that all went rusty in the rainAll winter longHe scared the crows awayIt wasn’t just the crows thoughIt was dogs and kids as wellAnd even Hell would shudderWhen he opened up his mouthAnd a terrible sound like the dying throes of pensioners came outHe stood in a field of hammersHe stood in a field of hammersA field of hammers that all went rusty in the rainWhen summer cameHis flesh began to rotThe stench was so repugnantThat the military were calledThey cordoned off the fieldAnd blew it all to bitsThe only remnant of himWas a charred and blackened heartAnd out of respectWe planted it in the earthAnd from that tiny heartGrew a mighty tree of tripeAnd once every yearWe gather at the treeWe all link hands around itAnd we do a Spanish dance
