Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: Part 5
Tuesday October 9th
According to this list, Yellow Magic Orchestra appeared on BBC 2’s The Old
Grey Whistle Test tonight. Sadly, this list doesn’t corroborate it. In the
absence of any other information, here’s a concert of theirs at the Greek
Theatre, Los Angeles, from August 4th.
Wednesday October 10th
For some reason, there’s an extra UK Albums Chart today, including these
new entries:
No 1: Regatta de Blanc The Police
No 34: Survival Bob Marley & The Wailers
No 66: Not That I Am Biased Max Boyce
No 70: Joe’s Garage, Act 1 Frank Zappa
No 71: Entertainment! Gang of Four
And on BBC 2, the second and final series of Ripping Yarns begins with
Whinfrey’s Last Case.
Thursday October 11th
The North Yorkshire County Council String Orchestra visit our school.
The first edition of Doctor Who Weekly is published. There being no
newsagent in the village (I know this sounds unlikely but it’s true), I was
slightly out of sync with comics and didn’t know anything about this until the
publication of No 2 the following week. If you think I’ve got the date wrong
because it says October 17th on the front, please read this.
Star Wars Weekly No 86
Spectacular Spider-Man Weekly No 345
Hulk Comic No 33
Top of the Pops
Presented for the first time by Andy Peebles, with music from The Dooleys,
Errol Dunkley and Chic. Full list here.
Friday October 12th
English: String Orchestra
Friday Night, Saturday Morning is hosted by former Prime Minister Harold
Wilson, with guests including Harry Secombe, Pat Phoenix and Tony Benn. It
did not necessarily go well.
Saturday October 13th
Doctor Who: City of Death - Part Three
2000 AD Prog 135 - I remember particularly liking this week’s Judge Dredd at
the time, about a man who manages to rob banks by using a time field
which allows him to move at a different speed to everyone else.
In the evening, I stay overnight at my Gran’s house in Castleford. There is a
massive storm, which I subsequently write about in my English book.
