Monday October 29th
First day back at school after the holidays.
First ever episode of Only When I Laugh on ITV, starring James Bowlam,
Christopher Strauli and Peter Bowles (who, with his other starring role on
Sundays in To the Manor Born, seems to be enjoying a career peak).
The second series of the BBC sitcom Butterflies, starring Wendy Craig and
Geoffrey Palmer, begins with an episode called Leaving.
Tuesday October 30th
Sapphire and Steel returns after ITV’s strike-related hiatus. Unfortunately the
current run had been interrupted halfway through a story (Assignment Two -
this is Part 5) and I do not know it has resumed, so I miss it. I can’t find any
reliable data on whether or not the story was reshown from the beginning -
some sources say it was, others provide no such certainty.
Not The Nine O’Clock News: Series 1, Ep 3 begins with John Cleese on the
Fawlty Towers set telling someone on the phone that the show finished last
week (which it did) - interesting the effort they’re putting in to make this
show seem specifically topical as opposed to just broadly topical.
Wednesday October 31st
English: Grezelda the Witch (the date given in the book is Tuesday 31st, but
since the 31st was Halloween, I’m giving that the advantage).

Several hundred radical Iranian students invade the U.S. Embassy in Tehran
and take 90 hostages, demanding that the United States send the former
Shah back to Iran to stand trial. Forever after known as the Iran Hostage
Crisis.
